Once you’ve downloaded the emails you’ll see that there’s a total of 8 emails total. 7 emails for the welcome sequence and 1 for a freebie delivery.
CUSTOMIZE WELCOME SEQUENCE
The first thing you’ll want to do is open up the first email and start customizing it. You’ll notice that all the emails are fill-in-the-blank-style emails. You can easily customize them to you and your business. You’ll need to do this for each email. When you’ve completed this step, just uncheck the draft button at the bottom and hit the save button. Do this for each of the emails in the sequence.
CREATE AUDIENCE SEGMENT IN FLODESK
Switching over to Flodesk now. Log in to Flodesk and create a segment and title it “Welcome Sequence”. This is where you’ll collect anyone that joins your list.
When you view your segments you’ll see one for the Welcome Sequence.
ADD AN OPT-IN FORM
You can use a freebie opt-in, or simply have a single-page signup form for someone to add their information to. Every time someone fills it out and joins your list they will automatically get added to the selected segment. For this one, we want to make sure that they get added to the Welcome Sequence.
CREATE NEW WORKFLOW
We want to create a special workflow for our welcome sequence. A workflow is a set of actions prompted after someone joins one of your segments. Since we already set up a welcome audience segment, we will now create a workflow that happens every time someone joins that segment.
SELECT A TEMPLATE OR START FROM SCRATCH
Flodesk has a few different templates available for different workflows such as nurture, welcome, sales etc. Since we already have our sequence ready to go, we will create ours from scratch and manually choose our steps. I promise it’s not as hard as it sounds!
CHOOSE TRIGGER FOR WORKFLOW
Being this workflow when a subscriber is added to the segment: Welcome Sequence.
NEXT STEP: SEND AN EMAIL
Now that we have the workflow trigger set up. We have to decide what happens when this trigger happens. Since we want our new subscribers to start receiving our welcome sequence we want the first action to be “Send an email as the next step”.
TIP: If you have freebie opt-ins you can also add a time delay as the first step by a few hours or a day. This way they first get your freebie delivery and then start getting your welcome sequence.
CREATE NEW EMAIL
Since we have to create an email as our first welcome sequence email, click the “Create New Email” button.
CHOOSE EMAIL TEMPLATE
The thing we love most about Flodesk aside from how user-friendly it is is all the pretty pre-made templates available. We love taking their designs, adjusting them to our brand, and then saving them as our favorites. But if you’re just now getting started with Flodesk you can simply choose one of the beautiful designs they have available. We picked one of their Welcome templates.
COPY AND PASTE FIRST WELCOME SEQUENCE INTO EMAIL
Go to the welcome sequence available on Wordsmith and click on the first email titled “Welcome—you made it!” and copy and paste your text into the template. When you hover over one of the emails in Wordsmith, you’ll see three icons appear on the right side. Click the clipboard to copy the entire email.
CHOOSE SUBJECT LINE AND PREVIEW TEXT
Each email comes with a few different subject lines to choose from. Pick the one you love most and copy-paste it into the subject line holder.
Yep, we even made sure to include a click-worthy preview text for each email. Add it into the placeholder and your email is complete.
Copy it from Wordsmith and paste it into Flodesk.
SET TIME DELAY
As the next step, you’ll select a time delay. Each of the welcome emails comes with directions on how long this delay should be. Some will be 1 day or 2 days. The others will be 3 or 5. Once you know how long your delay needs to be you can add it to this step.
NEXT STEP: SEND AN EMAIL
Now you will choose the “Send an email as the next step” and repeat the steps above. You’ll do this for each email in your welcome sequence until you’ve added all 7 emails.
PUBLISH WELCOME SEQUENCE
After your sequence is complete, hit the publish button! Anyone that gets added to your welcome sequence will now automatically get your welcome workflow.
GROW YOUR LIST QUICKLY WITH A FREEBIE
We added a freebie delivery email into the welcome sequence for those of you who want to grow your list with freebies. It’s the first email in the list since it’s typically the first one you want to make sure your subscriber gets when they opt-in for a freebie.
It’s a good idea to create a separate workflow and segment for each of your freebies. You’ll follow the same steps above and create a segment for your freebie opt-in and freebie workflow.
Since the purpose of the freebie workflow is to simply deliver a freebie it will be much shorter. The last step of your freebie workflow can be to add that person to a new sequence. In this case, you would want them added to your welcome sequence.
When someone opts-in for your freebie, they will first receive that email (and workflow). And then they will get added to the welcome sequence which will prompt the welcome sequence workflow to start.
CREATING MULTIPLE FREEBIES
You can do this for each of your freebies. If you have multiple freebies out there, people can sign up for them and they will automatically receive the freebie first, and then get added to the welcome sequence.
